design intent vs user experience

MA Interior design
Through this research, I looked at the design of the Facebook office in Singapore through the lens of interior architectural design to analyze the perceptions and experiences from the standpoint of employees. My hypothesis is that there is a contrast when it comes to designer’s vision for a space and its pragmatism in terms of work environment, employee productivity and work-life balance. This research analyses how the design intent of an office space may differ from its reception and usage. The methodology for this research entails structured interviews conducted online to examine certain features of office design. While the questions to the designer were candid, the interviews conducted with employees enquired about qualitative aspects of the spaces they inhabit within the office. They were also asked to rate – on a scale of 1 to 5 – the level of comfort experienced in certain spaces within the larger workplace.
